Welcome! I’m so glad you’re here.

I was born a military-brat to two active duty parents and was a proud Army wife of almost 22 years. With my husband’s retirement and my youngest off to college, I have begun to explore what I’d like to become now that I can put down roots. I currently live about halfway between Baltimore and Annapolis, Maryland.

My favorite book? Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, hands down. There is something about the sharp wit and smoldering romantic attraction between Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy that I never seem to tire of.

I completed my undergrad work in English with a focus on Creative Writing in the summer of 2016, a few months after my 40th birthday, and just months before my oldest graduated from high school. I was bound and determined to earn a degree before any of my children. I will complete an MFA in Creative Writing (Fiction) in October of 2020.

I also freelance as a developmental editor and have had the privilege of working on a wide range of projects including the kind of romance books you don’t tell your mother about to sci-fi adventures, urban fantasy, and memoirs. A good story is a good story as far as I’m concerned, I don’t care what genre it’s in.

I am currently taking a break from my editing work to focus on my own writing and launch a review and feedback site for readers and authors called Fiction Flock. This site attempts to share the joy and fun that I have always felt when discovering new books..and includes some goodies to boot.

Speaking of goodies, you must know that cupcakes hold a special place in my life. I am, what I like to call, a semi-professional cupcake baker and have baked thousands of cupcakes. Hardly a week goes by with a request from co-workers or friends. I honestly don’t remember when the fascination with these bite-sized flavor-bombs began, but what I do know is this: cake + frosting = five minutes of happiness, no matter who you are or what kind of day you’re having.

My debut novel, WARWICK, will be released late next year and features a main character who is everything I am and then some. In my mind, a post-apocalyptic world can’t always be just about survival. If you can’t find a way to get a good soak, a glass of wine, and some cake after the end of the world, I’m not sure it’s worth persevering.

I love connecting with readers, authors, fellow bakers, and anyone else who feels they’ve got something to say that I need to hear.

Find me on Facebook or Twitter. Or drop me a note on my nifty contact form.

20-words:

Writer. Reader. Fact lover. Cupcake baker. I spend my nights plotting the apocalypse and then inventing ways to survive it.

50-words:

V.E. Jorden punches the clock as a government contractor by day, but spends her nights and weekends plotting all of the ways the world might end, recommending books she loves, growing monster zucchini, and inventing cupcake recipes.

Her debut novel, WARWICK, is anticipated for release in the fall of 2020.

100-words – Persona:

V.E. Jorden has always had a fascination with the kind of interesting facts that are only useful when playing trivia games. When she’s not dreaming about quitting her day job, she’s plotting how the world will end and then writing about it.

Or helping others discover books worth reading.

Or hiding behind the zucchini plants in her garden.

Or baking cupcakes.

The release of her debut novel, WARWICK, and freshly-framed MFA degree are both expected in the summer of 2020. She lives southwest of Baltimore, MD with her husband, three semi-adult children, and two ninja-goat-cat dogs named Jinx and Q.
